The following is the day-to-day schedule for Standard Earth Science. Please note that all listings for future dates MAY change. Links to worksheets and homework assignments will appear the day they are assigned.

Energy! You will have succeeded with this unit if at the end you understand what energy is, the 3 (4!) ways in which energy is transmitted from one object to another, what the electromagnetic spectrum is, why tomatoes are red, and why the sky is blue. In addition, make sure that you understand the difference between heat and temperature, and why rising air cools.

Wednesday 11/3	Today we will read more about Energy in the Passwords workbook (Lesson 10).	If we finish the lesson, you will fill in the workbook pages tonight. Then tomorrow we will have a contest to see who knows the words!
Thursday 11/4	Today I hope that we will have finished the energy vocabulary in the Passwords workbook (Lesson 10).	How about some Extra Credit?? Psyched? Come watch a movie with me. Just remember that you don't get extra credit unless you do all the regular work, and the last day to turn in late work is TOMORROW!!

Monday 11/15	Someone once told you that black surfaces absorb more radiant energy than silver. Critical thinkers find out for themselves! We will do a short lab today, because "one test is worth a million expert opinions!". Wednesday you will have the opportunity to enjoy a quiz about energy transfer. Study party after school Tuesday if you have any questions about the material on the quiz.

Wednesday 11/17	Good news everybody! A quiz today on heat and energy transfer. Good thing you have been looking over your notes every day!	You had a quiz today, so you deserve a break? Of course you do, but you also know that the easiest way to learn is to review your notes!! THEN go out and enjoy November.
Elements, Minerals and Rocks! You will have succeeded with this unit if at the end you understand what minerals are, and what the three major groupings of rocks are, how they form and how they change from one type to another, and how to read the stories in rock layers. Strata, superposition, uniformitarianism, deposition, lithification!

Thursday 11/25		Homework over vacation!!! Your homework this weekend is this: save every tab from every drink that you and your family and friends enjoy over the holiday and bring them to school next week. The tabs are pure aluminum and will be donated to help kids with cancer.

Monday 12/13	TEST on Rocks and the Rock Cycle!! Then we see where the Earth came from.	You know what the homework is tonight! Review your notes!! Stick around after school for Extra Credit! Spend 1/2 hour with Mz. Frizz as a volcano blows its top! Mz. Frizz meets Superman?? Go out tonight to see the Geminid meteor shower, about 50-80 meteors per hour - maybe up to 120 meteors per hour - on the night of Dec. 13-14. The Geminid meteor shower occurs when the Earth passes through a trail of rocky debris from an extinct comet.
Tuesday 12/14	A lab on erosion!	You know what the homework is tonight! Review your notes!!
Plate Tectonics! You will have succeeded with this unit if at the end you understand what the Earth is like deep inside, why we think that the crust of the Earth is moving about and what happens when pieces of the crust collide, where the Hawaiian Islands come from and where they are going, what the world might look like in the future, and what Connecticut has been doing for the past 600 million years.

Wednesday 12/15	Today in class we take a look at the center of the Earth and see how that might effect the outside. There is a video, and if you are absent you want to download the study guide here. We will also see how we can tell the age of old rocks.	Tonight! You have some reading to do. You will read Lesson 1 in the Earth Science Passwords book. Do NOT read the part about soil. You do NOT need to know the words "topsoil", "subsoil" and "humus". After you read the book, fill in the 4 worksheets: A. Questions 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 B. Questions 2, 3, 5 C. Questions 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10. D. Questions 1, 4, 5
Thursday 12/16	Today in class we cover a brief history of the Earth, and start to discover why Europe is one foot farther away from West Hartford than it was when you were born. There will be a movie and a note sheet which you can download here if you are absent.	You have homework tonight! There is a reading assignment on Plate Tectonics. You will read Lesson 2 in the Earth Science Passwords book. After you read the book, fill in the 4 worksheets. Extra Credit Opportunity Today!! Watch a movie about Ancient Pompeii (Rated PG13 for people getting hurt). This one will really help you understand volcanoes, and also will help your grade! and review your notes!!
